Care of your loved one
Family members or close friends may choose to be involved in the gentle cleansing, dressing, brushing hair, shaving, painting nails or putting make up on their loved one when they come to visit them.
Cherished welcomes this, and makes it priority for you to come into our tranquil funeral home to do this for your loved one, if you so wish. Our peaceful family viewing room is where you can feel at home and spend all the time you need with your loved one, whenever suits you.
What to expect when visiting Cherished
Cherished creates a homely and calm ambience for your visit. With an array of soft lights and candle light, and if you wish, we can play music which may mean something special to you or your loved one whilst you spend time with them. Or simply, just sit with your loved one and have a cup of tea, talk, listen to music or read aloud a favourite book to name a few things. Whatever is most meaningful and helpful for you and your family.
Personal Care
We have a beautiful wash bowl and jug, with a selection of essential oils for you to choose from and delicate cloths for you to wash your loved one. Of course, you are very welcome to bring your own favourite items, creams or perfume that mean a lot to you or your loved one to use.
What the person who has died would like to be dressed in, may or may not have been spoken about. You may like to use their favourite dress or suit that was worn for a special occasion, or clothing that reflects their life and character. Otherwise, Cherished can provide a choice of gown.
If you feel you would like to do this personal care on you own, or with a few family members, or with our guidance, that’s fine – it’s completely your choice. For some, this is a way of honouring the person – a final act of kindness to him or her.
Personal plans for you
Planning ahead for your funeral is one of the most thoughtful and caring things you can do. Some people never get round to discussing funeral wishes with their loved ones, which can lead to all sorts of worry and anxiety when the time comes.
Taking out a funeral plan is a simple and straightforward way to remove this worry, and it can provide real financial benefits too. Some of the other benefits include:
- Pre-arrange the details of your funeral and record any special wishes, such as hymns, music choice and any other personal touches you would like your plan to include
- Make financial provision for your funeral
- Choose your funeral director in advance
- Ensure your family has access to expert help at what can be a difficult time.
Our funeral plan is available to UK residents and there are no complicated medical forms to complete. You can also appoint a nominated representative who we will keep informed about your plan, according to your instructions.
Our plans cover our costs (as specified in the plan paperwork) as long as we carry out the funeral and your requirements don’t change. You can also make a contribution towards third party costs, such as the cremation fees. These costs are outside of our control.
